How to delete Gemini activity

Go to myactivity.google.com, choose Gemini Apps, and use Delete to remove the last hour, the last day, a custom range, or all time. To delete a single conversation, open its three dot menu in the Gemini sidebar.

Short answer

Go to myactivity.google.com, choose Gemini Apps, and use Delete to remove the last hour, the last day, a custom range, or all time. To delete a single conversation, open its three dot menu in the Gemini sidebar.

Step by step

  1. Export with Takeout first: takeout.google.com, select My Activity, restrict to Gemini Apps. Deletion is permanent and there is no recovery path.
  2. Open Gemini Apps Activity: Go to myactivity.google.com and select Gemini Apps, or use the Activity link in the Gemini sidebar.
  3. Choose a deletion scope: Delete offers last hour, last day, custom range, or all time. Custom range is the one to use when you are clearing a specific project.
  4. Delete individual conversations: In the Gemini sidebar, hover a conversation, open the three dot menu, and choose Delete for surgical removal.
  5. Set auto delete so it stays clean: In the same activity panel, set auto delete to 3 months so this becomes a one time job rather than a recurring chore.

Gemini deletion is handled by Google's general activity system rather than by the Gemini interface, which is why it feels harder to find than it should be.

Four ways to delete

| Scope | Where | Use when |

|---|---|---|

| One conversation | Gemini sidebar, three dot menu | Removing a single sensitive chat |

| Date range | myactivity.google.com | Clearing a finished project or a specific period |

| Everything | myactivity.google.com, all time | Full reset |

| Automatic | Auto delete setting | You want a permanent low retention posture |

What deletion does not cover

Two important gaps.

First, conversations selected for human review are retained separately for up to three years and are not removed when you delete. Google documents this. It means deletion reduces what is linked to your account, not everything that exists.

Second, deleting activity does not turn off collection. Unless you also pause Gemini Apps Activity, new conversations start accumulating the moment you continue using it.

Uploads and connected apps

If you attached files, images, or used Gemini's connections to Gmail, Drive, or other Google services, deleting the Gemini activity removes the conversation record but not the underlying files. Those live in the originating service and need handling separately.

Save a copy first

Google Takeout is the only export route: takeout.google.com, deselect everything, select My Activity, then use the format button to restrict it to Gemini Apps. Choose JSON if you intend to convert it, HTML if you only want to read it in a browser.

The Takeout output is an activity log, not a set of conversations, so prompts and replies arrive as a chronological stream padded with metadata. ChatExports parses that Gemini specific structure and reassembles it into one clean document per conversation, in PDF, Markdown, DOCX, or CSV, converted locally in your browser without uploading anything.

Do the export, convert it, then delete freely. That order takes ten minutes and is the difference between clearing your activity and losing your work.

Frequently asked questions

Can I recover deleted Gemini conversations?

No. Deletion from My Activity is permanent, and Google does not provide a restore option.

Does deleting Gemini activity affect my other Google history?

No, as long as you filter to Gemini Apps before deleting. Deleting all activity without filtering removes Search and YouTube history too.

Why do deleted conversations still seem to influence Gemini?

Connected app context and account level personalisation are separate from Gemini Apps Activity and are configured elsewhere in your Google Account.

Does auto delete apply retroactively?

Yes. Turning on a 3 month auto delete removes existing conversations older than three months as well as future ones.
