Request your data export Each provider has an export button in settings — ChatGPT under Settings → Data controls, Claude under Privacy, Gemini through Google Takeout. Under PIPEDA, plus Quebec's Law 25 if you are in Quebec the provider has to give you a copy, and they satisfy that with a machine-readable file, usually a ZIP containing JSON.
Wait for the download link Providers email a link, typically within minutes but sometimes up to 24 hours. Save the ZIP somewhere you can find it. Do not unzip it unless you want to — the converter reads either the ZIP or the conversations.json inside it.
