Why Perplexity doesn't have a bulk export
Unlike ChatGPT or Claude, Perplexity has never shipped a "download all my data" feature in the product itself. The company treats each thread as a shareable answer page rather than part of a portable archive. That's fine for firing off a link to a colleague, but it means anyone who wants a personal backup has to save threads one at a time.
Step 1: Save your Perplexity threads
Open the thread you want to keep.
Use the share menu and choose Export as Markdown if it's available for that thread.
If Markdown export isn't offered, copy the full thread text into a \.md\ or \.txt\ file yourself, question and answer, in order.
As a fallback, open the public share link for the thread and use your browser's Save page as… to capture it as an \.html\ file.
Repeat for every thread worth keeping. If you have a lot, put them all in one folder and zip it.
None of this requires waiting on an email from Perplexity, everything happens as you go.
Step 2: Convert the saved threads
Once you have a folder of \.md\, \.html\, or \.txt\ files:

What actually survives the conversion
A raw saved Perplexity page is messy: question and answer blocks, citation markers, source lists, and suggested follow-up prompts are all jammed together in the same markup. ChatExports separates your questions from Perplexity's answers, keeps citation numbers and source lists attached to the right answer, preserves code blocks and formatted lists, and strips out the page furniture (navigation, ads, related-search widgets) from anything saved as HTML. The result reads like an actual document instead of a printed webpage.
Picking a format
PDF is the right call for archiving finished research or handing a thread to someone who just needs to read it, citations and formatting stay locked in place.
Word (.docx) works best if you want to keep annotating, quoting into a report, or sending to a client for edits.
Markdown (.md) is what you want if the thread is going into Obsidian, Notion, or a Git-tracked research vault, since headings, links, and lists come through as real Markdown syntax rather than flattened text.

Does Perplexity ever plan to add a full export? There's no public roadmap for one. Until it exists, saving threads individually is the only reliable option.
Can I convert threads from Perplexity Pro the same way? Yes, Pro threads (including ones with file uploads and Pro Search) save and convert the same way as free-tier threads.
Will my citations disappear? No, citation markers and source lists in the saved thread carry through into the PDF, Word, or Markdown output.
