Short answer
Gemini has no separate account, so you delete its data rather than the account. Go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini, delete all activity, and turn off Gemini Apps Activity to stop future logging. Deleting the Google account itself removes Gemini along with Gmail, Drive, and everything else.
Step by step
Export from Google Takeout first: takeout.google.com, deselect all, select Gemini Apps, and create the export. The archive contains your conversation history as HTML or JSON depending on the option chosen.
Open your Gemini activity: Go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini. This is the full log of prompts and responses tied to your Google account.
Delete the activity: Use Delete, then All time. You can also delete individual items or a date range if you only want part of it gone.
Turn off future logging: In the same screen, switch Gemini Apps Activity off. Conversations then keep for up to 72 hours for service and safety reasons and are not saved to your history.
Decide about the Google account: There is no Gemini only account to delete. Removing the Google account removes Gemini with everything else attached to it, so only do this if that is genuinely what you want.
The thing that confuses people about Gemini is that it is not a separate service with a separate login. It rides on your Google account, and its history lives in My Activity alongside Search and YouTube.
The three levels
| Goal | Action |
|---|---|
| Remove past conversations | Delete Gemini activity in My Activity |
| Remove Gemini entirely | Not possible separately, delete the Google account |
What "off" actually means
With Gemini Apps Activity switched off, conversations are not written to your history and are not used to improve Google's models. Google still keeps conversations for up to 72 hours to run the service and handle safety and feedback. Anything a human reviewer has already seen can be kept for up to three years, disconnected from your account, which is the reason Google advises against putting confidential information into Gemini.
Export before you delete
Takeout is the only route out, and the export it produces is unwieldy: a large archive where conversations are buried in nested HTML or JSON. Converting it into per conversation Word, PDF, or Markdown files makes the archive genuinely usable, and means deleting the activity costs you nothing you cared about.
Note that Takeout exports reflect what exists at the time you run them. Once the activity is deleted, a later export returns nothing.
Gemini in Workspace
On a Workspace account, your administrator controls Gemini availability and retention, and the activity controls may be locked. Admins can retain conversations under Vault policy, so workplace Gemini history is not yours to delete unilaterally.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete Gemini without deleting my Google account?
Yes. Delete the Gemini activity in My Activity and turn off Gemini Apps Activity. The Google account stays intact.
Where is my Gemini history stored?
In your Google account activity, viewable at myactivity.google.com under the Gemini Apps product.
Does Google keep Gemini chats after I delete them?
Deleted activity is removed, but conversations reviewed by humans can be retained up to three years in a form disconnected from your account.
How do I export Gemini conversations?
Google Takeout, selecting Gemini Apps. The archive is nested and needs converting before it is readable per conversation.
